Submit Your Film and Become Part of a Global Film Story!

Karlovac will once again become the center of high school film! From September 9-13th, 2025, the city will host the best young filmmakers from around the world, with their films being screened at the Edison Cinema and along the banks of Karlovac’s four rivers.

The Croatian Film Association and Cinema Club Karlovac invite all young filmmakers aged 14 to 20 to submit their works completed after January 1st, 2023, to the Festivals’ competition program.

The competition program includes four categories – fiction film, animated film, documentary film, and freestyle film. The selection committee consists of Ana Đordić, PhD, professor of Croatian language and philosophy, film critic Boško Picula, PhD, and director of photography Dinka Radonić.

The number of submissions continues to grow each year, as does the demand for participating in the Youth Film Festival and Four River Film Festival. Last year’s Festival editions attracted a record 398,190 viewers worldwide, with an impressive 1,569 film submissions by high school authors from 103 countries. The Festivals screened 62 outstanding film titles from 17 countries, and the Edison Cinema once again became the epicenter of film euphoria!

The Festival experience extends beyond just the cinema screenings! In addition to the competition films, this year’s program features practical workshops, masterclasses, roundtable discussions, debates, excursions, musical performances, and feature film screenings that will enrich every participant’s experience.

The film tradition in Karlovac has developed through the work of Cinema Club Karlovac and numerous programs that have brought film enthusiasts together over the years. This connection to film reached its peak with the reopening of the Edison Cinema, now the Festivals’ central venue and a symbol of the city’s passion for film. Every young filmmaker knows how valuable it is to have an opportunity to share their story with an audience, and Festivals like this enable them not only to create but also to inspire, exchange ideas, and build foundations for their future success in film.
