This year, the Four River Film Festival continues with its educational programs! Given that we are still in strange times, we adapted the lectures to the epidemiological measures, so our guests, as well as high school teachers, had the opportunity to participate in four lectures, some in person, some online. In the last issue of Bottle Daily, we presented the first two lecturers, and now we bring you the remaining two!
ALJOŠA ĆERANIĆ – The first film after the pandemic
Aljoša Ćeranić, film producer, came to Karlovac to present the film Loan Shark. He collaborated on the film with his brother, director Nemanja Ćeranić, and with an excellent crew they managed to make the first Serbian film after the start of the pandemic. Ana Đordić held a conversation with Aljoša, in which he revealed to us how he became a film producer after a career in professional basketball, how they managed to make a film in just fourteen days and what his next projects are.
– When I worked on smaller sets with my brother, I was always interested in who was in charge, who the leader was, and then I found out it was the producer. I inquired about what it means to be a producer and why was that role so important. I was attracted to production by the adrenaline that comes with the job, finding money for a project, reading a good script, making a good story and selling a product, which is the last stop of any project.
Aljoša revealed to us that in the future he would like to lead various workshops himself, and he said the following about the most important thing for a future producer to learn:
– To teach someone how to do a job, it is not enough just to talk about it. I would like for those who are interested to come to our set so I can show them what happens on the set, how films are made, what everyone’s role is… When reading a script, the producer must know why a story could be interesting and important. Also, anyone who wants to pursue this line of work must watch a lot of films; both the good ones and the bad ones, because you can learn something from everything.

ANA ĐORDIĆ – A model of film education in high school
Ana Đordić is a long-time friend of the Four River Film Festival and a member of its selection committee, and this year she gave a lecture for professors entitled A model of film education in high school, whose main elements she summarized for the readers of Bottle Daily:
– This lecture is intended for high school professors, mostly teaching the Croatian language, but I think it could be interesting to other professors as well, at least those who teach the humanities. It includes the key parts of my doctoral dissertation, called Establishing a model of film education in high school, so in this lecture called A model of film education in high school I try to give, show and explain the results of my research and my doctoral work to professors, to talk to them about film literacy, about why it differs from media literacy and how, why it is important and why film classes should be offered in high schools. There is currently a total of nine high schools in the Republic of Croatia with the subject of film literacy, dedicated to film and treating film as an art form. There are also programs for media technicians in vocational schools that deal with the creation of audiovisual content, but more from a technical aspect than from the perspective of approaching film as an art form. I hope that this lecture will motivate professors to introduce film classes in their schools.
