Get ready for a big, film-themed birthday bash! From September 9th to 13th, Karlovac will host the 30th Youth Film Festival and the 18th Four River Film Festival, organized by the Croatian Film Association and Cinema Club Karlovac. Two birthdays, hundreds of young filmmakers, and as many as 65 short films await you in the halls of the Edison Cinema!
The competition program is divided into four categories: fiction, animation, documentary, and freestyle film. We received a total of 1,622 submissions from 94 countries! This incredible global reach proves once again that film is a powerful way for young people to express themselves across cultures and borders.
The selection committee for this year’s anniversary editions of the Youth Film Festival and Four River Film Festival included director Dražen Žarković, film critic Boško Picula, Ph.D., and Ana Đordić, Ph.D., professor of Croatian language and Philosophy and a Doctor of Filmology.
This expert trio reviewed all the films submitted to the Festivals, then carefully selected those that, like the helium balloons featured in this year’s visuals, will soar in front of the festival audience in Karlovac.

The screenings will be held at the Edison Cinema, but that’s just the beginning! Visitors can also expect workshops, roundtables, film meetups, panels, and magical open-air screenings on the banks of Karlovac’s four rivers, a tradition our guests never forget.
This year, we celebrate 30 years of creating, learning, and connecting through the Youth Film Festival, and 18 years of internationally expanding our film horizons through Four River Film Festival. But above all, we celebrate the young authors whose creativity continues to inspire us and shape these Festivals year after year.
