Don’t worry, we’ve extended submissions to the 26th Youth Film Festival and 14th Four River Film Festival until June 15th, 2021. Don’t wait till the last minute, sign up and we will see you at the Festivals that will take place from 7th to 11th September 2021 in the city of Karlovac!
Although 2020 put unexpected challenges and obstacles in front of us, we are sure that it did not discourage our young filmmakers from being even more creative and from making a lot of fantastic films. Dear high schoolers, we can’t wait to see what you’ve filmed!
With more than 1,600 films from as many as 100 countries, 4,000 viewers and 200 international guests, the Youth Film Festival and Four River Film Festival are the most popular and the fastest growing destinations for high school film, but also an opportunity to find your place in the world seen through a camera lens. The success of Karlovac’s festivals is best illustrated by the fact that last year we reached over 45,000 visitors that virtually yellowed the city!
If you are 14 to 20 years old, and you have completed your film after January 2019, you can compete in these four categories: fiction, animated, documentary and freestyle film. The winners of previous editions of these festivals, such as directors Kaja Šišmanović and Dario Lonjak, producers Ivan Kelava, Marina Jurišić and Marija Ratković Vidaković, editors Maida Srabović, Tomislav Stojanović and Daniel Pejić and animators Vjekoslav Živković i Luka Hrgović, who are today successful professionals in the film world, know that these festivals are a very good starting point for further filmmaking.
The film story does not end with leaving the cinema at these festivals! In addition to the high school films in the competition program, the YFF and FRFF are known for their accompanying program that enriches and supports the work of high school students from year to year. In September, our participants’ days are filled with practical workshops and masterclasses, round-tables and debates, presentations by our partner organizations, excursions, concerts, and screenings of professional films in the evenings.
If all this is not enough to make you want to participate, we have another ace up our sleeve. This renowned film manifestation is held in one of the most beautiful cinemas in the world – the banks of the four rivers of Karlovac. Every evening we hang out on a different river, at a different location: on Kupa, Korana, Mrežnica and Dobra. Virtually or not, we will see you in Karlovac from September 7th to 11th so we could yellow the city again!
